Film Studies and Film Production
Welcome to Lit. of Film I -
Intro to Film Analysis
In Literature of Film 1 you will explore the film making process and how you can understand much more about films if you understand what film makers are doing (cinematography, composition, editing, movement, and sound), and more importantly, WHY.
After taking this class, you will no longer be a passive consumer of films and television but an active viewer and critic.
Chapter 2: Mise en Scene
Mise en Scene, or Composition, is the careful consideration of where objects and people are situated within the frame. In this chapter we will consider the possible meanings created within the image on the screen and why the director and cinematographer chose to set up each shot as they did.
Chapter 4: Editing
Editing is truly where the storytelling of a film takes place. With an infinite amount of possibilities of what an editor can do with a film, we will look at the cadence of scenes, the length of shots, what type of editing is used and why. Great editing can make a film, and likewise, poor editing can ruin a film.
